We love steam locomotives of all shapes and sizes. We are trying to visit and ride on all the miniature/narrow gauge and standard gauge railways open to the public in GB with as many private railways as we can,we are about half way at the moment. All our holidays are planned around railway sites and we travel many miles enjoying our hobby.
Miniature Railways of Great Britain The Sunderland Model Engineering Society June 2024
Rosie and I had a great day at the Sunderland M.E.S. the weather was warm sunny and dry, which makes a big change.
The guys made us very welcome, with of course Rosie getting her drive around the track on a couple of different loco's.
Sadly no steam running but a great day was had by us both.
We hope the members enjoy our video taken of the day.
We even got a walk down to the sea front.
Just the one railway from this trip, just goes to show we are getting near the end of our travels.

We have been waiting ages to visit this railway, so at last we managed to get to it. A great bunch of members welcomed us and the kettle was on. Rosie having her usual drive around while I did the filming. A very nice track that twisted and turned around the trees making use of the ground available. 5" and 3 1/2 gauges are catered for. Sadly some light showers of rain came along which had us he...

Wow! This railway has really changed since our last visit. The engines are immaculate you could eat your dinner from that paint work, all the brass work polished, beautiful! The views are amazing on your ride up and back to Devils bridge (sorry if we took to much video of it) You should see how much we didn't use. The sound of the loco working on the long climb, with the views, Rosie turned to ...

Thank you all. We hope you enjoyed your time with us. Sadly some of our members were unable to get to the Rally due to illness, we wish you a speedy recovery. I hope you enjoy my coverage of the goings on.

We have just had two great visits to this museum. The first on the Saturday the railway and winding engine were not in operation so we returned on the Sunday. Our railway video has already been uploaded to UA-cam. The museum is very interesting with many mining items to view. The twin tandem compound steam winding engine is amazing although now running on compressed air. Something a bit differe...
Narrow Gauge Railways of the UK West Lancashire L R Revisited May 2024

Another of the railways in the Lancashire area which we have lost the film from our first visit many years ago. It is not very long track, but the loco's are amazing and the staff very friendly. Many thanks for allowing Rosie yet another cab ride, she loves Hunslets and the trip made her holiday. Perhaps it could be a good idea for the Council to erect brown tourist signs from the main A59 road...

This is another Model Engineering club track we have visited but as it was closed we couldn't ride it. At last we now can. We liked the way the club had set out the track to maximize the area available to them. A good ride. Many thanks to the class 20 diesel loco owner for allowing Rosie to have a drive around.

After a short wait she was steamed. Could we have a trip around the track with you please? we asked. Many thanks to David the owner and off we went. This Narrow gauge railway can be found in the Astley Green Colliery museum. The railway has plans to extend for another 1/4 of a mile. The steam loco they have is under repair, the boiler is also having repairs done to it. Fingers crossed it is done soon. Well worth a visit.

Seen from our back garden. Thursday, Friday, Saturday. The 66 wasn't a Royal train after all. Thanks to Railnut21 for the information. See comments. First we had a very unusual train, this did two trips from Wellingborough to Oakham and return, hauled by a very clean 66737, Friday, Saturday we had the Midland Pullman stop on it's way to Carlisle, then returning to St Albans in the evening. Like many clubs these days Chris, a lack of steam locomotives! Seems like our hobby is going “Electric”. Nice video, keep up your travels. Graham
The members do own steam loco's, just that nobody had one at the club Graham. It's more fun driving steam loco's but a lot easier with a battery. Plus the boiler testing can be a pain but very necessary for safety reasons. We hope to be filming again soon.. Regards Chris
Nice whistle. Sounds like mine on our scot
It's a chime whistle, I don't like the sound of the Stanier whistles. Is your Scot an unrebuilt 7 1/4?
Nice train ❤
Thanks for watching.
Very nice, like.
Many thanks.
Thanks for coming down, was lovely chatting with you, cheers, Rich
No worries! We enjoyed our time with you all. Best wishes Chris and Rosie.
Notice it's only the over 65's running trains. Another 10 years and this will be a thing of the past.
Don't think the young guy with the yellow battery would like being called over 65's. I know what you mean though, we are all struggling to attract young members, they will come and drive then find out how hard it is to build or how expensive they are to buy. The schools don't teach engineering now, that would sow the seed into the hobby and help a lot. It is happening in every activity not just Railways, the kids just won't get involved.
Awesome video
If you get the chance visit this railway, best in May or June.
Wonderful video
Thank you! Cheers!
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it mels.
Brilliant video
Something different.

Thank you.
Found you ! Looking forward to your Oswestry mes film. Cheers Chris P
Welcome aboard! Don't forget to subscribe to my channel, you will see what we get up to. Oswestry club should be on by Wednesday hopefully. Chris
Brilliant video
Many thanks.
Brilliant Video Chris, Glad I got a feature or two on the little petrol engine!
You did well Daniel, I try to give everyone a clip or two, trouble is the film gets longer and longer.
Great vid Chris . watch to the end though folks so you see some sunshine 🙂🙂🙂🙂
What a difference in days, freezing one day and shorts weather the next. Great weekend Andy and Helen. Thanks for supporting our little railway. Hope Helen is feeling a lot better. Regards Chris and Rosie.
Lovely to drop in for a couple of hours on Saturday and do a few laps behind Mr Briggs - thanks for the hospitality
Our pleasure. Thank you for supporting our club, hope you can make it again soon. Regards Chris
This reminds me of the miniature railway at Jocks Lane, Bracknell, Berkshire. Although it doesn't double back on itself. I believe it only runs on certain Sundays and bank holidays.
The London clubs are an area we need to cover. ULEZ puts us off going. Next year! Most raised tracks are the same. Still good fun though. Thanks for watching and commenting. Regards Chris
@@wooltman Thankfully, Bracknell is outside of London, so no ULEZ to worry about 😊
@@WorldofColor-ng5yc Will make the effort next year, could do a couple outside ULEZ.
Great, but I didn’t hear the poetry of the whistle
It not worth blowing, If the owner doesn't blow it I cannot film it. Still a nice loco, fresh from it's box.
I love Denham Aerodrome. I go there to watch quite a lot, but soon I’ll be making my first plane spotting compilation there 😁
We also enjoyed this trip.
Nice scenic railway
Lovely area Dave.
Fun railway there
So relaxed and friendly, well worth a visit. Best wishes Chris
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
I am sorry, but in Norwich, I had no idea of this event? My Gran used to take us to look into the showroom off Gold Street, bus from Greenfield Road (414) into town past St Matthew’s (Henry Moore Bronze) We would go to Lions for a Rumbaba and cup of tea! Then into All Saints, Granddad was a sideman there after retiring from the Colonial Police Force, Palestine, Tripoli and finally, Cyprus. I remember we were taken to Rugby on the last steam service out of Castle Station…if only we could get those days back ? Thanks for posting, I’ve subscribed so WILL attend the next event!
Hi Kevan. Great memories. Hopefully they will run it another year. Thank you for subscribing, have a look at some other events we attend. Regards Chris
Great catch
Thank you.
Papplepwick pumping station: Rigg Lane, Off Longdale Lane, Ravenshead, Nottingham, United Kingdom, NG159AJ.
Thank you. Well worth a visit.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it.
Brilliant video
This is a good one mels.
Brilliant video
Some of our favourite loco's the Alice class Hunslet.
Nice Locomotive Dave, is it yours? Regards Larry.
Yes it is Dave's loco. The builder was also on site to see it running, he was so pleased to see his old loco running around the Wigan track.
Oh this is another completely new one to me, even after I thought I looked almost everywhere online😅 Definitely planning a trip here, looks a nice little place, and is very doable for me. Thanks again :)
You're so welcome! Hopefully you can visit, it's nice to give the club some publicity as we do with all our videos. Many more to come that you have never heard off. Regards Chris
It's a shame the metal work is red with age (?) ...then again I predict trying to do something about it would be akin to what it's like painting the 4th bridge ...need I say more except good luck to them.
I'm sure it would be Mark. If you get the chance pop up, I'm sure the guys would welcome your help with a paint brush lol! Keep safe my friend. Regards Chris.
How wonderful. I never knew this tramway existed until I found your channel just now. The tram at 1:25 reminded me a lot of the beautiful Hill of Howth in Dublin, Ireland which sadly, no longer exists. My dad took me for a ride on it just before it closed forever in May 1959. I was 6 years old and I've never forgotten that wonderful day sitting on the open top deck and utterly thrilled. It was a huge mistake to close the line. Thank you for a wonderful trip down memory lane. I've subscribed to your channel.
Hi. Many thanks for watching and subscribing to my channel. I'm sure you will find many more videos to your liking, plus bringing back old memories of times past. We have filmed trolley bus museums, steam pumping stations, Preserved standard gauge/ Narrow gauge and of course my favourite Miniature railways. The guys work so hard on the Seaton tram way to make sure all the visitors enjoy their day. Best wishes Chris and Rosie.
Very professionally done Rosie, that was a good visit....Best wishes....Bob.
I told her Bob, now she wants to film every time. I told her she wouldn't be able to drive. I have the camera back now lol! Best wishes Chris and Rosie.
Thanks for another Great video Chris I bet Rosie enjoyed driving the lovely class 4 T Looks a nice track in a lovely countryside setting, plenty of birds singing in the trees Thanks for posting the video Best wishes Andy G
Thank you for your kind comment. Rosie enjoys driving any steam loco's, you could also persuade her to have a go on a battery one as well lol! It was a shame that she only had one lap of the track on that class 4, she would have got used to the loco and gradients better. It really is a lovely track site in a lovely setting. Regards Chris and Rosie.
what a fun ride.... ❤❤
Thank you. Yes it's a lovely track. We love the tunnels.
Impressive layout and club! thanks for the video 😊
My pleasure Mark. It is a great track and club. Must get down more often. Regards Chris
Still got my Prince Charles my wife got me for Christmas 1959 cost her £5
Worth a bit more nowTony.
Nice Long Track --See you soon NEV.
We look forward to that Nev. Fingers crossed the weather is kind to us.
Thanks for the video Rosie.
You’re welcome 😊
A nice scenics railway
It is Dave. We enjoyed our drives on this track. Best wishes Chris
I lost my train of thought. I'm trying to express myself but just can't come up with the goods. 😂
You must express yourself better before your shunted onto a platform of new coaching stock. you could hit the buffers. LOL!
Brilliant this mate.
Glad you enjoyed it.
!Great video. Like me!
Thanks for liking.
Turn left from Boots corner into Gold street and there was a lane leading down to the brewery parallel with bridge street and basset loake was on the right hand side. showroom onto Gold street. Avery scales company was at the bottom of this lane. The brewery in those days was northampton brewery before carlsburg moved in. Yorks travel at a depot by the nene bridge and the cattle market was in victoria prom. Northampton lnwr station at far cotton was still there and the bedford station at the bottom of Guildhall road though disused made way for a car park. i was born in the Barratt nursing home and we lived in winchester road till moving to Mears Ashby. Derngate bus station was my mecca for buses and coaches as was the works at Midsummer meadow and Avon cosmetics moved in opposite. Dad was a power station freak and enjoyed the steamers there just up the road from the abbey. caroline
Are these directions in these days or days past?
I was born in 1956 and we moved away in 1977. caroline
It’s such a shame about the low turn out. All the effort people put into organising something and owners don’t turn up.
We totally agree. All the Scots plus other B/L Loco's around the UK and we get two turn up on the ground level and one on the raised. Nice to see the Gauge 2 running though.
The Scot is looking in fine fettle Chris, good to see you both enjoying your visit, albeit quieter than expected....Regards...Bob
Running well Bob, we enjoyed the day at Northampton, nice long run..Best wishes Chris and Rosie.
Awr, it's like the whole gang's here!
A nice bit of driving from Rosie! Thank you for taking the time to video it for us 🚂
Glad you enjoyed it. While I'm filming Rosie gets some good driving time. She loves that.. We enjoyed our day with you, many thanks.
What a lovely facility NM&EE have! I'm officially fascinated by that dual gauge turntable. Of course, on Google Earth it's hidden beneath the leafy canopy.
Nice location but the trees can be a pain when they drop their leaves, big job clearing them Howard. Regards Chris.
hi there. remember the basset loake show rooms just off Gold street. caroline
Although I was born in Northampton I cannot remember the shop but my dad told me about it many times.
